Phillip Jones is the 27th Mayor of Newport News, Virginia, and the city’s youngest elected mayor. He is focused on strengthening education, enhancing public safety, and bringing innovation to City Hall. Under his leadership, Newport News earned its first All-America City designation, recognizing community engagement and progress.
A graduate of the U.S. Naval Academy, Mayor Jones also holds an MBA and MPP from Harvard University. He has served as a Marine Corps infantry officer on four continents and is currently a Major in the Marine Corps Reserve. He also brings private-sector experience, having advised Fortune 500 companies, cities, and nonprofits as a consultant with Bain & Company.
He is married to Dr. Jamila Wynter, a gastroenterologist, and they have one son, Alexander.
